| Over-the-Counter Prescription Drug Program |
Prescription versions of medications that are available over-the-counter (OTC) are no longer a covered benefit. OTC versions may be less costly for members.
For many members, these changes are effective at renewal as of May 1, 2005. Check with your Blue Cross representative for more information. The changes are as follows:
• Brand and generic prescription medications that have OTC versions for the same prescription strength will no longer be covered.
• Members may still purchase the OTC versions, but they are responsible for the full cost of the medication(s).
Members can speak to a pharmacist or doctor if they need assistance selecting an OTC version from the OTC Rx List. Additionally, members can talk to their doctor about monitoring their OTC medication and changes in the specific drug or dosage.
If you have additional questions, contact your Blue Cross representative.
