New Addition to the BlueExtrasSM Discount Program
Complementary Alternative Medicine (CAM) has been added as the newest BlueExtras discount available to Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Illinois (BCBSIL) members.
BlueExtras is a discount program that provides BCBSIL members access to discounted health care products and services usually not covered by their health benefit plans. There are no additional fees to participate in BlueExtras – it’s just one more benefit for BCBSIL members!
Complementary Alternative Medicine includes a variety of therapies that may help to promote wellness, prevent illness and address existing symptoms and conditions.
BCBSIL members are eligible to receive discounts of up to 30 percent off certain CAM services such as yoga, Pilates, massage therapy, fitness club memberships, spas and more. Discounts are also available for vitamins and health and wellness magazines. Additionally, members will have access to wholehealthmd.com, which provides guidance on the potential benefits of integrating CAM with conventional health care.
Spreading the Word!
To encourage BCBSIL members to participate in BlueExtras and get the word out about CAM discounts, we're providing employers with e-mail copy, so all they have to do is cut and paste the e-mail message and attach the flyers. Examples are below.
Healthways WholeHealth Networks, Inc. (“Healthways”) is an independent contractor which administers the Complementary Alternative Medicine (CAM) discount program for Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Illinois (BCBSIL).
This is a discount program available to BCBSIL members. Some of the services offered through the CAM discount program may be covered under your health plan. Please refer to your benefit booklet or call the customer service number on the back of your ID card for specific benefit information under your health plan. Use of this discount program does not affect your premium, nor do costs of the discount program, services or products count toward your calendar year or lifetime maximums and/or plan deductibles. Discounts are only available through practitioners participating through Healthways in the CAM discount program.
