The Blue Distinction national transparency demonstration focuses on the most effective ways of sharing information with consumers to help them learn about absolute and relative healthcare costs.

Seventeen Blue companies are participating in the demonstration, making this information available across the country in urban, suburban and rural communities. Participating companies will share cost data with consumers in an open-architecture format. Any Blue member companies residing in a demonstration market will have access to the affordability information offered by participating local Blue companies.

A comprehensive, in-depth evaluation will be conducted by the participating Blue Cross and Blue Shield companies with support from the Blue Cross and Blue Shield Association to determine what information and resources consumers find most useful in understanding costs and putting their knowledge into action.
