The State of Illinois Recredentialing cycle requires health care entities to obtain data on physicians according to an established single cycle. A single cycle refers to the collection of Recredentialing data from a physician on an anniversary basis so that it is performed only once within a three-year period. The State of Illinois selected the last digit of the physician's social security number to create the single cycle. The cycle for 2006 through 2011 is below.

BCBSIL will send notifications to the contract holder for those HMO and POS network physicians that are due to be Recredentialed during the calendar quarter. In general, the due date to return applications to BCBSIL will be during the 2nd month of the calendar quarter. This will enable timely processing of Recredentialing applications. No Recredentialing will occur during the months notes as “Open.”
Example
A participating provider whose social security number ends with a 0 will be notified by January 10, 2006 and will be requested to return the Recredentialing forms to BCBSIL by February 17, 2006.
Please note the single cycle does not apply to physicians that are new to BCBSIL and require initial Credentialing, which may be completed at any time.
