The following information was recently posted under What's New on the BCBSIL Provider Web site in error: "When submitting claims that indicate outpatient surgery was performed, please remember to include the ICD-9-CM procedure code. By including this with your claim submission, you will insure a more timely and accurate reimbursement for services."

The notice should state: When submitting claims that indicate outpatient surgery was performed, an ICD-9-CM procedure code is not required. The Health Insurance Portability Accountability Act (HIPAA) regulations specify that the use of ICD-9-CM procedure codes is required for the reporting of inpatient procedures by hospitals. We apologize for any problems this error may have caused.
