Doctors and nurses who work for Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Illinois (BCBSIL) recently welcomed Morgan Park High School students to BCBSIL’s nearby Blue Door Neighborhood CenterSM to build enthusiasm for careers in health care. The event — organized by BCBSIL’s Institute for Physician Diversity — sought to demystify the many paths students might take to arrive at these jobs. “Before I went to college, I actually had not seen a physician who looked like me,” says BCBSIL Vice President and Chief Medical Officer Dr. Derek Robinson. “And this is important because it's been shown that patients have better outcomes when they're taken care by people that look like them.”
