CHICAGO — Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Illinois announced today that it has appointed Alvia Siddiqi, M.D., as Chief Medical Officer, leading care strategy and clinical quality outcomes for the plan and its 9 million members.
Dr. Siddiqi joins from Advocate Health, where she served as Chief Medical Officer for Clinically Integrated Care at Advocate Health. In her nine years with the organization, she provided strategic guidance to the population health, quality improvement, government programs, and integrated care management teams. At Advocate Health, she also led clinical oversight for Advocate Physician Partners’ Accountable Care Organization, with responsibility for nearly 1 million individuals.
“Our clinical team is key to delivering on our commitment to increase access to quality, cost-effective health outcomes,” said Stephen Harris, president of BCBSIL. “We welcome Dr. Siddiqi, whose focus on social determinants of health and leadership at large health care delivery organizations will help us further partner with providers to best serve the needs of our members.”
Prior to Advocate, she served as Medical Director for the Illinois Health Connect Medicaid program and in clinical roles at Alexian Brothers Medical Group and Cook County Health and Hospital Systems in Chicago’s Northwest suburbs. Dr. Siddiqi is a Board-certified Family Medicine physician and Fellow of the American Academy of Family Physicians. She is a Leadership Greater Chicago Fellow from the Class of 2023 and was recognized in Modern Healthcare as a Top Diversity Leader to Watch in 2022. Dr. Siddiqi is past Board Chair and President of the Illinois Academy of Family Physicians. She previously served on the AAFP Commission on Quality and Practice and Sub-committee on Health Equity.
Dr. Siddiqi said, “I am delighted to join the leadership team at Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Illinois and look forward to delivering the highest quality care possible to our members. It is great to join an organization that is committed to population health, achieving quality outcomes, addressing the social determinants of health, and advancing health equity.”
Dr. Siddiqi replaces Dr. Derek Robinson, who has recently been promoted to the role of Divisional Senior Vice President and Chief Medical Officer of Enterprise Health Care Management with Health Care Service Corporation. BCBSIL is a division of HCSC.
