Welcome! Your first step is to set up online access to your member account. Use our secure member portal to find your plan's coverage and benefits, search in-network doctors and pharmacies, check claims, stay up to date on your plan spending and more.

You'll need to have your member ID number handy to create your account. Normally, you get your ID card within 10 days of your health plan application being approved.

Create your account by:

• Visiting mybam.bcbsil.com
• Clicking “Activate Your Account”
• Filling out all the necessary info

Once you are signed up, you should also download the BCBSIL.com app for easy access to all your information on the go.

We'll send your welcome letter as soon as your health insurance application is approved. For some plans, like individual and family plans, we'll also need to get your first premium payment. Your welcome letter tells you:

• your member ID number
• your group number, if you get coverage through your job
• details about your plan benefits and how to start using them

Your member ID card arrives soon after, normally within 10 days of your application being approved.

Once your plan is active, you can view your plan details and digital ID card online.

Before you sign up for your online account, you'll need to have your member ID number handy. You can find your member ID number on your member ID card. We'll mail you your ID card after we approve your health plan application and, in some cases, get your first premium payment. 

If you have your member ID card but are still having trouble, it might mean:

• Your first premium payment hasn’t processed yet. For some plans, like individual and family plans, you'll need to pay your first premium. Try again in a day or two.
• Your info doesn’t match what's in our system. Are you using a nickname? Did your health plan application have a typo? Have your member ID and, if you have a plan through your job, your group numbers handy. Then, give our Customer Service team a call.
• The system may be temporarily down. Most of the time, you'll see an error if we're having technical issues. Please try again later.

There are a few reasons you may have trouble logging in to your account. Here are some of the most common:

• You're using the wrong username or password
• You haven't gotten your member ID card yet
• There's an issue on our side. You'll normally see an error message if we're having technical problems.

Find your digital member ID card in your online member account:

• Go to the ID card page from the home dashboard. Follow these same steps in the BCBSIL app.
• To add your digital member ID card to your phone's wallet, visit the ID card page in the app and click the share icon.

You can use the digital version while you wait to get your physical card. Some doctor offices accept your digital ID card instead of your physical ID card. Not all do, so it's important you check.

Want to go fully digital? Choose to opt for a digital ID card only in the BCBSIL app. We'll only send you a printed member ID card if you update your primary care provider (PCP) or switch plans.

Claims tied to your health care plan show up in your member account after your doctor sends them to us and we process them. To find your claims:

• Log in to your member account and visit the Claims page.
• Filter by date, status or provider to narrow your view.
• If you have a handful of claims, make sure you check beyond page 1.

Most claims show up within 5–10 business days. Timing can vary, though, depending on when we get them and how quickly we can work with your provider.

You can sign up to get text or email alerts when a claim has been processed. In your online account, go to My Account and pick Profile and Preferences in the drop-down menu.

Yes. As a BCBSIL member, you can download our BCBSIL Mobile App. Through the app, take your plan with you whenever and wherever you are:

• Review your plan and its benefits
• Get your digital member ID card
• Track your claims
• Check your prior authorization and referral status
• Understand your year-to-date plan spending
• Know how much is in your health savings account, if you have one
• Find in‑network care nearby
• Access and search your medicine cabinet of prescription drugs
