Account Management FAQs

Welcome! You are going to want to learn about your plan, find out what doctors, hospitals and pharmacies are in your plan’s network, and understand how we’ll keep you in the know about your coverage. 

The first stop is Blue Access for Members℠, our member portal for secure, online access to everything you. Sign up for your personal BAM account by clicking the Log In or Sign Up link on our bcbsil.com homepage or go to mybam.BCBSIL.com.

Within days of your application being accepted and your first premium payment being paid, you will receive a welcome letter from BCBSIL that includes your member ID number and group number. This information can be used by providers and pharmacies to verify your coverage until you get your member ID card. Your ID card will be sent separately soon after.

You’ll find your policy information in your BAM account once your plan is in effect.

You’ll want to set up your preferences to let us know whether you want us to send your bills, explanations of benefits and other plan documents by email, text or mail. There are 3 ways to update your communication preferences.

1. Go to the Update Your Preferences page  .
2. Text CONTACTIL to 33633 for a link.*
3. Open the BCBSIL app and go to Settings.

You may have received this message when trying to sign up for online access to your account for several reasons. 

• If your first premium payment hasn’t processed, your policy isn’t in effect yet. That means your online account may not have been set up yet. Wait a day or two and try again. 
• Many times, the information you entered may not have matched the data in our system. Have your group and member ID numbers handy when you register. Both numbers can be found on your welcome letter and your member ID card. 
• There is also a chance that the online system is having problems. Wait a bit and try again. System problems are usually corrected in a few hours or less.

Members can receive Explanation of Benefits (EOB) statements and other plan information in Spanish. You can choose your language preference for your communications with us after you log in to your account. Select Profile then Preferences then Language Preferences to select the best language for you for written and spoken communication.  

You can also use our online form to update your preferences without having to log in. You'll need to enter your name, date of birth and your member ID number. This number is on your member ID card.

We also have the following tools available for our Spanish-speaking members:

• Provider Finder^® in Spanish — Locate medical professionals who speak Spanish in your area. 
• BCBSIL App — Access your secured health plan information easily on your mobile device. The App will open in Spanish if the device language is set to Spanish.
