With a ribbon-cutting ceremony June 9, Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Illinois unveiled a new 50,000-square-foot service center with room for more than 300 employees. The building features extensive natural light, spacious workspace and a large break room and lounge leading to a covered outdoor patio.
BCBSIL has had a presence in Mattoon for 36 years and outgrew its first location, which opened with just 25 employees. The company now employs more than 200 people in Mattoon and is hiring to fill 75 new positions.
"We are dedicated to offering not just jobs but careers for the people in this community and surrounding areas," BCBSIL President Steve Hamman said at the event.
BCBSIL also presented $5,000 donations to four local nonprofit organizations: Catholic Charities, the Salvation Army, Mattoon Community Food Center and The Haven, an emergency shelter.
