MATERNITY AND INFANT HEALTH

Pregnant or Thinking of Becoming Pregnant?

The Health Benefits for Immigrant Adults and Seniors (HBIA/HBIS) plan is here to help. Your plan includes benefits and programs that can help you through pregnancy and after your baby is born. Having a baby can be filled with new and unexpected experiences. Our plan can help you make the most of your maternity benefits.

Benefits of Enrolling in the Special Beginnings® Program

Special Beginnings is a program to help you better understand and manage your pregnancy. We recommend you enroll as early as possible. That way you can take advantage of all the benefits of the program.

Prenatal Care

During pregnancy, you have access to a Care Coordinator (trained nurse). They can help you set up doctor visits and tests. If you have health issues, it’s good to know you will have resources to help. Your Care Coordinator will check in with you to talk about how things are going. You will also have access to educational classes and info to help you learn about what to expect and how to make good choices to stay healthy.

Post-Partum Care

After your baby is born, you still have support as you start your journey as a new parent. Your Care Coordinator can let you know how to find information about post-partum care. They will talk with you about how you and your baby are doing. Having trouble getting enough sleep? Dealing with depression? There are resources to help. Also, you can get a breast pump at no cost to you. Or earn gift card rewards when you complete a timely post-partum visit with your doctor.

Well-Child Visits

Did You Know Your Baby Needs 6 Well-Child Visits in Their First 15 Months?

The American Academy of Pediatrics recommends that your baby has 6 well-child visits in their first 15 months of life. These visits are important to make sure your baby is growing and developing in the right way. Call your baby’s provider to schedule a well-child visit. These visits are a covered benefit.

Well-child visits are not for when your baby is ill. Your baby can’t tell you when something is wrong. Your child’s provider knows what to look for during these well-child visits.

You can earn gift cards when you complete these 6 visits for your baby. Find out how to earn and redeem gift cards.
